Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the event," they added.
City officials stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking official stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
